Tantei-Dan Retro TV Game Revival Shop DenDen Town
One of my favourite retro-game shops in DenDen Town is ゲーム探偵団 Retro TV Game (Game Tantei-Dan Retro TV Game Revival).
It’s a bit of a trek down the main drag away from Namba station, past the distractions of SuperPotato, Taito Game Centre and countless toy, figure and porn shops but it’s worth the walk.
Inside there’s a veritable feast of delights.
At the entrance there’s a huge collection of handheld consoles, with a selection of Game & Watch, and other retro handhelds.
The ground floor has hardware, Super Famicom games (complete-in-box and loose), Famicom games, and a huge collection of music (cds, and even cassettes).
I bought this Konami music tape – it actually came with a sheet of written music inside – and is excellent.
Moving up to the second floor (past the t-shirts, badges, coasters and other odd items on the stair wall), you get the rest of the games : Playstation, PS2, Sega Saturn and rarer items like NeoGeo Pocket, Wonderswan and MSX games.
There’s also a substantial collection of books, magazines and fanzines which would take hours to browse through, aswell as a collection of playthrough DVDs (shmups, Metal Slug and more).
Price-wise there are bargains to be found, but a lot of the items seem to be slightly more pricey than SuperPotato, however I prefer this place as it has a little bit more of a rough-n-ready “local shop” feel, and has some more interesting items (the fanzines, DVDs, t-shirts, etc).
I would definitely recommend seeking this shop out as you might find something rare and unusual here.
