Kid’s U.S. Land Game Corner
In some Japan malls there are activity centres for kids called (oddly) “Kid’s US Land“.
For a few hundred yen for 30 minutes kids get to play in the jungle gym, karaoke rooms, table tennis, etc and in most places there are old arcade games set to Free Play!
Many of the games are pretty old, and often broken unfortunately however.
GunBullet is in good working condition though.
This one, Techno Drive, is a big favourite of my 6 year old. It tests your steering, speed techniques and then challenges them all together.
It’s pretty hard, but it has a collection of different challenges that make it fun despite the difficulty.
For example one challenge has you driving along with a container of liquid behind you car and you have to spill as little as possible as you race to the finish line within a set time-limit.
There are 3 challenges per game and it rates you at the end (think my highest rating is about a “C” Rank, lol).
My son & I have tried Pop’n’Music a few times but it’s a bit too tricky…
I like The House of the Dead III, although the right hand gun on this cab has trouble reloading, which can make two player games less fun.
Taito Battle Gear 4 has a pretty impressive cabinet.
I’m a big fan of the Densha De Go series but unfortunately this one, although running, is just a bit too broken. Pretty much only the brake and accelerator work, the door and alarm switches are broken so you often get penalized while playing it.
There are also a few very old prize games like this Dream Rail and 七福神 (Shichi Fuku Jin).
This Strong Puncher is often broken (and doesn’t seem to score correctly) but occasionally it’s working.
The last time I went they had a few new arrivals, specifically a couple of SNK Football Championship cabinets. Will try and get some pics if I go again.
